Our puku are full, it is time to drink in the korero reka from our tuakana.

It is in each korero, that acknowledgements are made to E Pa. Although sorely missed, his presence and wairua within each and every tamaiti who stood this day.

Once again the burden of choosing two winners from tau 3/4 and 5/6 are in the capable hands of Matua Te Haere and Mikaere.

Matua Anthony of Canterbury Museum came to visit after lunch. Our kaupapa was to look at the different types of games and activities that Maori tamariki would have engaged in in their youth. Are they any different from what our tamariki do today?

After paramanawa, tamariki teina had their Manu Korero.
The difficult job of judging our korero were placed in the experienced ringaringa of Matua Te Haere and Matua Mikaere.
Taonga tohu were given to two winners each of Tau 1 and Tau 2.

I rongo mātou ki te kōrero e pā ana ki a Tuterakiwhāno.

Marokura was a companion of Tuterakiwhano. When Tuterakiwhano sought to beautify the landscape of Horomaka he called on the skill and expertise of Marokura to bring forth from his kete seafood and sea life.

Marokura placed the following kaimoana in these waters

• In Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) he put the mohoao (black flounder).
• In Wairewa (Lake Forsyth) he put the tuna (eel)
• In Akaroa he put the koura (crayfish)
• In Wainui he put the kuku (mussel)
• In Whangakuru he put karengo (seaweed)
• In Waikerakikari he put kina and tio (sea-eggs and oysters)
• In Koukourarata he put tuangi and wheke (cockles and octopus)

Science Alive came to visit Hato Opani. With magnifying glasses, acid testing kits, foot and hand print samples, tamariki carried out various scientific experiments to find out who really did enter the Three Bears home.

TE MAHI TIERE

Whakamātau - Tunu Tiere.

Today for putaiao we were looking at how jelly crystals changed from one type of matter to another. Our recording sheet recorded - (Box 1) - what the jelly looked like to start with (as crystals), (Box 2) - the processes we used to change the state of the jelly crystals to a liquid, then a solid, and then finally (Box 3) what the jelly looked like in the end.

We also came up with adjectives to describe the appearance of the jelly at its different stages.

- looks like salt, white, sugary, smells like jelly, iti, green, wobbly - hūkokikoki, jiggly, soft, squishy, yummy ...

To make our jelly look a little more interesting we added - fruit salad, custard and cream - a mini trifle. The custard and cream needed different processes to change their states. Can you think of what these processes were?
